I’m pleased to share that I have started Schema for Music, Inc! My first product is called //SCHEMA, and it’s a way for DSPs and other music-focused streaming products to get to market quicker, stay focused on their core product with robust and reliable media and metadata delivery.
When I worked at Bandcamp, I observed that while we did make an investment in media and metadata ingestion, we did not focus on it. This was definitely the right call, because we had limited resources and we wanted to focus on building product that bands and fans would love.
This meant that we intentionally limited the amount of work we’d spend on metadata ingestion. We’d grimace and eat our vegetables and do what we had to, but we intentionally chose to focus narrowly on the experience of end users. My hypothesis is that there are a lot of DSPs and other music providers doing that now.
Our product, //SCHEMA, is a high availability, high performance, global-scale music ingestion and delivery network. DSPs don’t need to worry about coordinating with their distributors, orchestrating media and metadata delivery, or upgrading their DDEX parsers. //SCHEMA handles all of that, so your music startup can do what you do best: build compelling products.
